Today Mrs. Edwards started off class by collecting our homework, our permission slips and barcodes for the college fair. We then continued with SSW  but instead of our normal routine, we read a poem entitled, “Bitter Strawberries”. Our focus: Determine the mood AND tone of the poem. Support your claim by identifying poetic devices and discussing their function in relation to your claim.

After we had read through it, we discussed the poem in our groups.  We compared our responses to the poem.

Once we finished examining “Bitter Strawberries”, we listened to an IB student’s analysis of the poem. We took notes on in a different color than we had previously used so we could compare what student’s analysis and our own analyses.

We finished class with a debrief by “whipping it” around the room.
