We had a lot of announcements today.

Mr. Strand: “It was not my idea. I did not come up with Stop the Party.”

Jeannette:”If you eat from the pantry, you should also bring stuff to restock.” Patrick: “Why don’t we all bring some money?” Jeannette: ” I don’t mind hitting up Costco.”

Sakshi: “Mrs. Thinnes is teaching a SAT prep class at school. $132 for Six weeks, Tuesdays and Thursdays.”

Tell Mrs. Edwards thank you, for toughing it out with the W.W. pieces.

We watched Excalibur today. Very cheesy. But kind of interesting. Not as cool as the Dr. Who episode though.

Nothing screams ‘medieval times’ like a coat of arms.  Since we will begin our journey into this time period by reading Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, I thought it appropos for you to channel your inner knight/lady and create your own personal shield.

Traditionally, a coat of arms represents the core values and ideals of a family.  Some of you may already have a family crest, but for this assignment, I need for you to design one that symbolizes YOU and your personal beliefs.

Because some of us might be limited by our ability to draw and/or upload images onto the blog, all I require is a written explanation for at least 3 symbols, and a Latin motto (with translation).  Of course, you are free to upload an image of your shield for possible extra points, but an acceptable post would look something like this:

Motto:

Scientia sapientes juvat – Knowledge calls the wise ones

Symbols used:

• gold fox (for one who will use all that he/she may possess of wisdom and wit in his/her own defense
• blue lion (for truth, loyalty and dauntless courage)
• orange torch (for worthy ambition, truth and intelligence)

Game Plan!

The game plan was little altered today since we had to choose what we wanted to do. The two options on what to do where door 1 and 2. So this is how it went:

• Vote for either door 1 or door 2. (Door 2 won.)
• Work on study guide for 40 min.
• Watch “Doctor Who.”

Homework:

• Work on polished piece. Due tomorrow at 8pm to turnitin.com.
• Work on magazine, due Monday.
• Work Assessment homework if you didn’t already do it. (Due Monday)

Also there was a reminder to take SSR seriously, to have a consistent book that you’ll be reading, and to have another book ready when you’re coming to the end of a book.

Alright guys and girls, today in English we started off with normal SSR and after that we went over the game plan. Then we went over some of the things that we should keep in mind for our polished piece, which I will go over later. Then finally we were given the Medieval Times study guide and we worked on that for the rest of the class period. Keep in mind that it is due at the end of class on Thursday.

Okay so for your polished piece remember that it needs to start with a title, followed by the genre (Ex; fiction or biography) then the blurb. Followed of course by your polished piece. This will be due this Friday at 8:00pm to turnitin.com.

We also got our dates for the next Writing Workshop, and here they are:

Draft 1- November 6th.

P.R. 1- November 9th.

Draft 2- November 16th.

P.R. 2- November 20th.

Polished Piece- December 4th.

Ohhhh and one more thing, we do not have a Blog Assignment this week, so that means, take more time on your polished piece and make it super duper tight!

Okay, people of North house,if you missed Monday then you’re in for a lot of make up work! Sike!!

Actually Monday we didn’t even have English, we went up to the pointy building and did the carrier assessments.

But remember we do have homework for that which does count as an English grade, so we actually have to do it! That will be due next Monday so we got a good hardy week to finish it.
